Question:

Hi, we bought a plot in the forest. There are some very old beautiful stones, that belonged to a farm. We know by neighbours that there was a family living in it less than a hundred years ago. How could I start a research on it? How could I find who lived there? Tack

Answer:

I suggest that you visit your biggest local public library. Almost every main library has a local history collection. There you can get information also on older buildings in the neighbourhood, and sometimes even a list of earlier settlers on the spot. Most home village associations publish books periodically (which are included in the local history collection of the library), and some of the articles in these books deal with older settlements. The librarian will guide you further. Good luck!
